Srisakdi Charmonman

Prof. Srisakdi  Charmonman earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Computations from Georgia Tech, USA, in 1964. In the US, he became Director of Graduate Studies in Computer Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1968, and a Full Professor of Computer Science at the State University of New York in 1973.

In Thailand, he was a Full Professor of Applied Statistics at the National Institute of Development Administration in 1974, and a Distinguished Professor of Computer Engineering at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in 1988. He was elected to the Inaugural Hall of Fame of Asian Institute of Technology.

In research, he has been Directors of several research projects with grants from the US NSF, the US Armed Forces, UNESCO, Ford Foundation, USAID, UNCTC, IDRC, IFIP, and ICID. In business, he was Founder and Chairman of Internet KSC which was the first and largest ISP in Thailand, once valued at one billion US$.

He was elected Chairman of eASEAN Business Council. In government, he was Chairman of the Computer Working Group at the Office of the Prime Minister, Chairman of the Committee to Use the Internet to Display Traffic Conditions, Member of the University Service Commission chaired by the Prime Minister, IT Expert in the Committee to Integrate and Revolutionize the National Records (eGovernment Committee) chaired by the Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman of the Extraordinary Commission on Copyrights of the House of Representatives, Director of eCommerce Pilot Project and Chairman of the Committee on Specifications of eRegistration Project at the Ministry of Commerce, Expert Member of the National Copyright Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Software Copyright in the National Copyright Committee, Owner of the Copyright for 3 of the 13 National Thai Fonts. 

He was Founding President of 9 learned societies, elected one of the 5 Directors of APNIC, one of the 15 members of  ISOC BOT, and one of the 15 members of  IFIP BOT.  He was named Asian Computer Man of the Year 1981, Father of the Internet in Thailand, and  Father of Thai E-Learning. He has written over 4,000 articles and books on IT and lectured in more than 30 countries. He is now Senior Chairman of the Internet of Things Knowledge Service Center at Siam Technology College, implementing the first Smart Campus in Thailand.
