Big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity hold significant potential value for European SMEs, but unlocking the value of these technologies can be cumbersome. Their emergence is creating new specialised skills gaps, shortages and mismatches, especially for SMEs, who cannot afford to compete with large enterprises to attract and retain the scarce digital talents. The European Commission has launched a new initiative aimed at developing a common vision, toolbox and roadmap supporting SMEs to develop the skills needed to work with big data, IoT and cybersecurity.
On 12 April 2019 we are organising our fourth Expert Workshop in Brussels. The goal of the workshop is to agree on a shared vision and to identify supporting measures fostering skills development for SMEs. We invite you to read the attached briefing paper and prepare your comments in advance. Given your expertise in the study domain, we kindly invite you to participate in the workshop and to help shape the vision on skills development for SMEs. The workshop is 'on-invitation-only' and will be attended by approx. 20 experts in the field. The workshop will be a unique opportunity to shape European and Member State support programmes and policy development for the coming years. We would highly appreciate it if you could make yourself available.
The workshop will run from 11.00 hrs – 16.00 hrs, and will take place at the Digital SME Alliance, on Rue du Commerce 123 in Brussels. A detailed programme with 2-3 speakers representing good practices in Europe will be shared in due time. You can confirm your participation by replying to this email.
