Rasa Smite is artist, network researcher and cultural innovator, working with science and emerging media technologies. She holds PhD in culture and communication sociology, and MA in visual arts. Her PhD thesis with the title "Creative Networks, in the Rear-View Mirror of Easter-European History" was recently published by Amsterdam's Institute for Network Culture (2012).
Together with Raitis Smits, she is a key founder of RIXC - artist collective and new media cultural center, co-curator of Art+Communication festivals, and chief editor of Acoustic Space journal series, introducing novel themes such as internet radio (1998), locative media (2003), electromagnetic waves as material and medium in art (2006), spectral ecology (2007), art and renewable energy (2009), transbiotics (2010), techno-ecologies (2011), and, more recently - art of resilience (2012).
Currently Rasa Smite is Associate Professor in New Media Art / Liepaja University and researcher at the Art Research Lab (MPLab). She is also teaching Multimedia Communication in Riga Stradins University, and lecturing in other universities in North and East Europe.
