Mike Kann

Mike Kann is a design researcher with a background in furniture, art and installation design. He is currently conducting a PhD at the Royal College of Art, London and is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, combining a focus on the tradition of furniture with the implementation of cutting edge technologies.  His research project, What Furniture Wants, focuses on the implications of the Internet of Things in the domestic space through the supportive architecture of furniture.  This topic engages with a range of issues including the ethical aspects of the IoT in the home, material culture, ritual and routine, mediated experiences, research cultures and their implications on outputs and the development of an alternative understanding and model of how the IoT can be applied within the home.
