Irene Mavrommati is an Assistant Professor at the Hellenic Open University, School of Applied Arts. She cooperates with Research Academic Computer Technology Institute as an experience/interaction design researcher, with roles in research projects conceptualization, acquisition and consortium coordination [projects include: e-Gadgets, ASTRA, Plants (EU-IST-FET), and more recently FunInNumbers (FinN: a Platform for Pervasive Games, awarded Excellence by the Greek Ministry of Education)].
She has previously been with Philips Design, the Netherlands, as a senior interaction designer/project manager (for AmI, ItTV, Car Navigation systems, et al). She has extensive experience in design and research, focusing in AmI systems interaction, has led several EU FET research projects, and was member of the Disappearing Computer steering group.
She holds a PhD in Interaction Design for Ubiquitous Computing Environments, (Dept. of Products and Systems Design Engineering, University of the Aegean), an MA (RCA) in Interactive Multimedia, and MA and BA in Graphic Communication Design.
She participates in art exhibitions with interactive installations, as well as technology exhibitions with research demo prototypes; she has authored several book chapters and research articles, with a focus in interaction within ambient computing environments.
