The IoT Developer Survey is in its sixth year and is the IoT industry’s largest developer survey.
The survey is open May 11- July 10, 2020.
The survey results will provide essential insights into gaining a better understanding of the IoT industry landscape, the challenges IoT developers are facing, and the opportunities for enterprise IoT stakeholders in the IoT open source ecosystem.
The 2019 IoT Developer Survey had more than 1,700 responses from individuals around the world. This clearly indicates the IoT ecosystem recognizes the value of the survey results.
The 2019 survey provided critical insights into gaining a better understanding of the requirements, priorities, and perceptions of active IoT developer communities, and identifying relevant IoT technologies, leading architectures, applications, and standards on a global scale. Of note, two-thirds of respondents in the 2019 survey were working on IoT projects professionally.
Last year’s edition surveyed developers to gain on-the-ground understanding and insights into how IoT solutions are being built, as well as identifying developers’ top choices for architectures, technologies, and tools.
The 2019 survey found that IoT development is expanding at a rapid pace, fueled by the growth of investments in predominantly industrial markets. The survey highlighted developer focus on areas like IoT platforms, home automation, and industrial automation.
The results of the 2020 survey will give OEMs, software vendors, IoT hardware manufacturers, service providers, enterprises, and individual developers in the IoT ecosystem updated information about how IoT solutions and service development trends and what they mean for their strategies and businesses.
The survey results also help the IoT community at the Eclipse Foundation better understand the top industry focus areas and priorities for future project releases.
For the first time, the survey will probe respondents about their use of Edge Computing, which will help influence the roadmap of the Eclipse Edge Native working group.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
All developers in the IoT ecosystem are encouraged to add their voice to the survey to help the industry gain the broadest possible view of the state of IoT technologies in the context of commercial IoT.
