PHOENIX, Ariz. (KPNX) -- Computer titan Bill Gates is buying up land west of Phoenix to develop a "smart city,"
An investment group operated by the Microsoft founder has spent $80 million to seed the development in far West Valley. off Interstate Highway 10 near Tonopah.
The community, planned to spread across 25,000 acres, will be called Belmont, and the goal is to create a "smart city," according to developing group Belmont Partners.
"Belmont will create a forward-thinking community with a communication and infrastructure spine that embraces cutting-edge technology, designed around high-speed digital networks, data centers, new manufacturing technologies and distribution models, autonomous vehicles and autonomous logistics hubs," the group says in a news release.
