Florian Michahelles: From an Internet of Things to a Web of Systems

The concept of the Internet of Things has been around now for almost decade. The concept of connecting everything and anywhere has caught traction and is starting to get understood by the wider public. As sensor, things, systems get connected for the first time data and information stemming from completely different domains and contexts potentially could be combined, mashed and enriched. Because: the value of information grows when Combined with Other Information. However, in order to allow this integration a machine-readable notion of understanding has to be established. Instead of starting from scratch, proven concepts from the web and semantic technologies could be applied. Florian’s and Simon’s article “Toward a Web of Systems” provides a glimpse on how machines can interact with each other and with people building upon Web and semantic technologies.
