Systems of Learning, final event. Oct 6 2009, London, RCA
It is the final event in a series called 'Systems of Learning' which has looked as different ways in which media systems encourage collaboration, network and user feedback and human-machine learning. In this final event the focus will be on the emergence of what has been called 'The Internet of Things'. and how this impacts on communication, design, social interaction, how we live in our homes and how we hold onto ideas of privacy in a ubiquitously networked and tagged world. What are the implications of this network for surveillance, design, privacy, our homes, our working environments? In development of these systems are there particular challenges for designers which can be exploited and how might these opportunities be realised?
'Cities across the world are about to enter the next phase of their development. A near invisible network of radio frequency identification tags (RFID) is being deployed on almost every type of consumer item. These tiny, traceable chips, which can be scanned wirelessly, are being produced in their billions and are capable of being connected to the internet in an instant'.
Tuesday 6th October 2009. Speakers are Usman Haque and Rob van Kranenburg with Armin Medosch in the chair.
Please come to the Kensington Gore entrance of the RCA and ask for Lecture Theatre One. The event starts at 6.30 pm and will end by 8.15 pm followed by refreshments.
