The Internet of Things Panel at Rhodes Forum

The Internet of Things panel is calling for proposals dealing with the human aspects of the Internet of Things. There is a lot of focus from logistics, efficiency, anti theft, home automation, smart cities, control and surveillancen, radical transparency and open innovation. We believe however that IoT is an ontological shift towards a different relationship between men, things and the world. Men have made things 'holy' by their acts of will and things have allowed to be made 'holy' because of a particular strand of existence running through time. This has different names. If we want a world of more balance, joy and respect for men, things and the world we have to debate and propose a practical philosophy that is the result of a genuine dialogue of civilizations.

Erik Geelhoed

Erik Geelhoed - with a background in psychology - worked at Hewlett-Packard Research Laboratories, Bristol from 1991 until November 2009. He is an internationally recognised expert in design research with outstanding track record of global collaborations and a wide network of industrial and academic partners. Multi-lingual; an accomplished communicator across cultures with extensive user knowledge of a range of business and IT systems. Highly adaptable; able to quickly comprehend and formulate approaches to find solutions to new and diverse problems and situations.
His main area of interest is Pervasive Media & Mobile Computing .g. Media-Scapes, Eyeglass Displays, Fashion & Wearables (with Central St Martins College of Art and Design), Net-Books in Education, Context Sensors and Actuators, Digital Storytelling, HP's Halo Telepresence system, he initiated and set up Digital City Bristol.

Natacha Roussel

Natacha Roussel creates organic like haptic interfaces involving one or several users they can be body extension or come as close to the body to being a garment. She currently pursues a Phd research at the planetary collegium concentrating on augmented clothes as a collective environment.
In 2003 she co-founded Experientiae Electricae, Experientiae Electricae integrates technologies based on rudimentary electronic principles and leading to multiple occupation of city space.

Irene Mavrommati

Irene Mavrommati is a lecturer (Hellenic Open University- School of Applied Arts) with a background in experience/interaction design in ubiquitous computing environments. She has worked for Philips Design and Research Academic Computer Technology Institute, initiating and managing research projects, with a focus on experience design and interaction in Ambient Computing Environments. She has participated in and steered several blue sky research projects (among others the IST-FET projects: e-Gadgets, ASTRA, has served in the steering group of the Disappearing Computer network, has been exhibiting interactive art installations, has edited and authored books and book chapters as well as research articles in journals and conferences. She has co-edited the collective volume: Disappearing Computer (Springer, 2007). Current research interests are with the FinN (Fun-in-Numbers) platform for developing mobile, locative and collaborative distributed interactive games and installations.
