Council and Institute of Philosophy present a seminar in Moscow on Convergence of NBIC-technologies and Internet of Things

Council and Institute of Philosophy team up with Lift@Home again for a Moscow seminar on Convergence of NBIC-technologies and Internet of Things. We believe the "winning solution" to making the most open, inclusive and innovative Internet of Things is to transcend the short-term opposition between social innovation and security by finding a way to combine these two necessities in a broader common perspective. New trends of NBIC-convergence, Human Enhancement Technologies on the one hand and Smart Environment (Ambient intelligence, Ubiquitous computing, Internet of Things) on the other prepare us to a future paradigm shift blurring Anthropology and Social Philosophy borderlines.

Alan Munro

Alan Munro is an consultant researcher studying people, use of new technologies, and interactions through them. His work is primarily in ethnographic and situationist approaches informing design of new technologies, and informing critical reflection on them.

Alexander Gluhak

Alex is a senior researcher at the University of Surrey, where he works on real world information infrastructures based on the Internet of Things. He is technical manager of the SENSEI project, a large-scale European project that focuses on the Integration of the Physical into the Digital World of the Future Internet. Alex is also active in the Future Internet Assembly, where he is care taker of the Real World Internet community. His recent interests are amongst others capturing characteristics of human behaviour with the help of the Internet of Things and the application of machine learning techniques for its interpretation and prediction.

Simona Sofronie

Simona Sofronie is an architect and currently a PhD researcher in Urban Design at the PHL University College and Hasselt University on the generation of a ubiquitous urban game to visualize mental maps as representations of the way people use, perceive and conceive a given spatial environment. She is interested in mobile / location-based apps in the urban space, design for social practices, genius loci knowledge and fight spatial cognition routine through serious-fun gaming. She is part of the research group ArcK, focusing on the physical/social/cognitive impact of mapping on the urban space.
